Director’s Welcome

Greetings! It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to our website. Whether you are a consumer, caregiver or professional seeking resources, we intend to provide you with readily accessible information about important human services that are available in Lucas County Let me share with you a little about the Lucas County Department of Job and Family Services. Ohio is a state-supervised, county-administered system for the traditional social services, including programs such as public assistance. The Board of Lucas County Commissioners is our administrative authority. Our facility, located at 3210 Monroe Street in Toledo, is a very busy place. Each year over 100,000 people come through our doors.

The programs administered by this department are funded by a combination of Federal, State, and County funds. Family Services we provide include child care, temporary cash assistance, medical benefits, food stamps, teen pregnancy prevention, and job skills training. Adult Services we provide include medical benefits, food stamps, transportation, disability assistance, adult protective services, nursing home care, and other home and community based services. We also assist with voter registration.

Our Prevention, Retention and Contingency (PRC) program was designed to provide benefits and services to help families overcome barriers to achieving or maintaining self-sufficiency. The PRC program provides new opportunities to develop and implement innovative strategies to remove families from a cycle of dependency on public assistance and into work. PRC services are available for car repairs, housing assistance, personal disaster, employment materials, GED incentives, family disaster assistance, migrant assistance, and Beds for Babies.

In cooperation with community organizations that we fund, this agency provides nearly one billion dollars of vital supportive services to the residents of Lucas County. For Fiscal Year 2007 our operating budget is over $70 million. In addition, our staff will authorize benefits in excess of $900 million.

As Executive Director, it is my commitment for this agency to be the State’s leader in the design and delivery of high quality human services that help individuals, families and communities to be healthy, self-sufficient and sustainable. I hope you find our website informative and user friendly.

Sincerely,
